Jutland, 31 May–1 June 1916. The Battle of Jutland was the largest naval engagement of the First World War, bringing the Royal Navy’s Grand Fleet and Germany’s High Seas Fleet into direct conflict in the North Sea.
The fighting cost thousands of lives and heavy ship losses on both sides. Germany could claim a tactical success from the losses inflicted, but Britain retained command of the North Sea and its naval blockade remained in place. This design keeps the focus on the ships, sea and smoke of the battle rather than turning Jutland into a simple victory slogan.
