Field Notes editorial standards

Field Notes is where S&W Gallus writes about military history, landscape, training areas, service life and the places behind our designs.

Experience and historical fact

Our authors are British Army veterans, and some articles draw on first-hand experience of service, training, terrain and military life. Where an article moves from personal experience into historical fact, we aim to distinguish the two clearly.

Sources

For historical subjects we prefer primary records and established institutions where practical, including national archives, military museums, official government sources and recognised heritage organisations. Relevant articles may include a short Sources & further reading section so readers can check the background for themselves.

Accuracy

Dates, place names, campaign details, coordinates and other specific historical references matter to us. We would rather qualify an uncertain point than present a good story as established fact.

Corrections

If you spot a factual error or can point us to a stronger primary source, email info@swgallus.co.uk with the article title, the point in question and, where possible, a source. We will review substantive corrections.
