Battle of Danny Boy, 14 May 2004 β Operation TELIC, Iraq.
The action took place near the British checkpoint known as Danny Boy outside Al-Amarah, when British troops fought Iraqi insurgents during a period of intense fighting in southern Iraq. The battle became particularly well known for close-range combat and is one of the most frequently discussed British Army actions of the Iraq campaign.
We chose Danny Boy because modern military history is often represented only through broad campaign names. A specific checkpoint, date and action gives the history a real location and context. The artwork is a historical reference to the battle, not a claim that every wearer β or everyone behind Gallus β was personally present there.
