Basra, Iraq — 2003.
This design uses the city and its surrounding map as a reference to the opening phase of Operation TELIC, the British name for military operations in Iraq beginning in 2003. Basra became the principal focus of British operations in southern Iraq. We chose a map because it keeps the design anchored to real geography — streets, routes and a place that became deeply familiar to thousands of service personnel.
The faded cartographic treatment is intentionally closer to a folded operational map than a generic combat graphic.
