Stalag Luft III, 24–25 March 1944 — the Great Escape.

Seventy-six Allied airmen escaped from the German prisoner-of-war camp through Tunnel Harry after one of the most elaborate escape preparations of the war. Most were recaptured. Fifty were murdered by the Gestapo on Hitler’s orders.

This design is a tribute to the planning, discipline and sacrifice behind the real escape, not simply the film that later made the story famous.
