Rorke’s Drift, 1879 — the soldier behind the history.

This design uses an engraving-style soldier portrait to put a human figure at the centre of the Rorke’s Drift story. We chose this approach because battles can easily become dates and numbers; a single figure is a reminder that the defence was experienced by individuals standing in a very small place under extraordinary pressure.

The monochrome artwork takes its visual cue from nineteenth-century illustrations, giving the shirt a historical feel without turning it into costume or caricature.
