The military helmet represents the individual who served, while the red poppies connect the design to the remembrance tradition that grew from the First World War and later came to honour service and sacrifice across generations.

We chose the two symbols together because they keep the focus human. The helmet is empty, making absence part of the image, while the flowers soften the military object and place it firmly in a memorial rather than celebratory context.
