This design commemorates the Great Escape from the German prisoner-of-war camp Stalag Luft III. The operation combined extraordinary planning, engineering, secrecy and persistence, but it also ended in the murder of fifty recaptured airmen. We chose to represent it because the real story is far more remarkable — and more serious — than the legend alone.

The monochrome artwork, date and coordinates keep the design focused on the place, the escape and the people behind it.
