BATUK — British Army Training Unit Kenya, centred around Nanyuki.
British troops have trained in Kenya for many years, using the varied terrain around Laikipia for demanding field exercises in heat, dust and wide open country. For many who have trained there, the name Nanyuki is as memorable as the exercise itself — the staging point between camp, training area and the rest of Kenya.
We chose the travel-poster treatment because BATUK is both a military training location and a strong memory of place. The design focuses on landscape, movement and camp life rather than trying to turn training into a combat scene.
