Isandlwana — the battlefield through its terrain.
On 22 January 1879 a Zulu army defeated the main British camp beneath Isandlwana during the opening phase of the Anglo-Zulu War. We chose a topographic map because the ground matters: the distinctive mountain, ridges, approaches and open space help explain how the battle unfolded in a way that a generic battle picture cannot.
The vintage cartographic treatment is aimed at battlefield visitors and serious history enthusiasts who recognise that places are part of the evidence.
