Basra, 2007. This design represents the later British phase of Operation TELIC, when forces in southern Iraq were operating through a very different security environment from the 2003 invasion.

By 2007 the campaign involved convoy protection, patrols, base defence, training, transition and repeated exposure to indirect fire and IED threats. Basra should therefore be treated as a campaign setting with changing missions, not as one generic street-fighting image.
