139 Defenders Rorke’s Drift T-Shirt — 1879

Rorke’s Drift, 22–23 January 1879. “139 defenders” is the familiar figure attached to the battle, but the surviving historical rolls do not produce one perfectly uncontested list.

John Chard, Gonville Bromhead and later compilers recorded the garrison differently, with questions over who was present, who was fit for duty and how attached personnel should be counted. This design retains the traditional 139 as part of Rorke’s Drift memory while the Gallus archive makes the source problem explicit.
